The Success of the Unnatural

Ever googled the word "journalist"? You get to see a huge variety of the strangest pictures. But then, as a journalist you have to be strange, flexible and extraordinary in order to be good. Not that I really know what I'm talking about, it's just my impression. My evenings, as my days in general, seem to be immensely filled recently. Tonight I went to a presentation which took place in uni, topic: journalism. I don't intend to become a journalist after uni but I've always found it an interesting thing to do (as do millions of others..). After tonight's lecture I'm again convinced that too many people rush for work on the employment market, there's just not enough for everyone. Maybe we should reconsider the idea of giving a defined income to all citizens and only let those work who want to.. but that's another story and a huge discussion topic. The 3 journalists who were there this evening all agreed on one thing: It's a requirement that you are able to work under pressure of time. A thing I find highly unnatural.. The feeling of stress is a defence reaction of the body, telling you to stop or at least to slow down. So, that leads me to the conclusion that all journalists are morbid creatures, I always knew it! Just look at this:

Hey Velvet, its been a long time since I posted. The other day someone asked me if I considered myself a journalist. I just laughed and replied, "No, this is just the print form of another medium. The bottom line is that I am the written word version of a crappy radio DJ."

hey ho phlip, thought i'd never "talk" to you again! good to see you're still up and busy, even if that just means being a simple radio dj.. but don't worry, just keep listening to your favourite Xfm and learn from the professionals! just don't read any german newspapers, or do it if you want to know how to be a real crappy journalist. although i don't quite dare to comment on american journalism, maybe you could do that instead.. i think your fellow journalists over there need to dig up some truths.

The state of journalism here has reached an all time low. Last week, Bob Woodward, one of the two men that exposed watergate, went on CNN to shill for the Bush Administration, this week he had his ass drug before the grand jury. Woodward not only knew about the leak and didn't publish it, he leaned on other reports at The Washington Post to not investigate it.

I swear, If a modern day Diogones roamed the American political landscape, his lantern would only shine light on two honest men, Elliot Spitzer and Patrick Fitzgerald. They are the only two people I can think of that are above reproach.

hm, an all time low, why do you think that is? i mean, among journalists i always like to believe there are at least some who actually care about making the truth public which is supposed to be part of their job anyway. but i guess the truth it not profitable enough and those few decent journalists are drowned quite quickly by influential people..? i love the story of diogenes and the lantern, such a brilliant symbolic gesture. like sitting on the pavement and fishing in the gully with a fishing rod.
after some research i now know that the two honest people you mentioned are attorneys.. interesting, they seem to be an encouraging drop in the ocean of lies. have you ever visited a website called www.signs-of-the-times.org ?
