A Burning Thing

For June Carter love was like a ring of fire and she wrote: "I fell into a burning ring of fire, I went down down down and the flames went higher. And it burns burns burns.. the ring of fire.. the ring of fire .."
Finally it was Johnny Cash who actually sang these words June had written for him and he made them famous. You can see how it happened that Johnny made June so sad she started to write these words in the film "Walk the line" which is a biography of Johnny Cash's life up to his mid-30s. After having seen the film I can only find this character a strange one. The sudden huge success makes him fall for all sorts of temptations, he cheats on his wife with all those young and naive girl-fans of his and when he comes home, which is hardly ever does after a while, he treats her badly. You can see how the music business is a completely different world compared to the quiet kitchen table of an ordinary family. His new life seperates him from his former life, his colleagues on stage and on tour are his companions and friends now, there's nothing left to talk about when a woman and a man should be together but have so little in common. Knowing the background story you can see how, against his will, he becomes like his own father, impatient and violent and screaming loudly at people he loves, hurting them without ever saying sorry. On the other hand, he never gives up fighting for June Carter's love and finally after years of effort he wins her heart. And of course the heart of many fans who love his music, his show in a prison where he sings in front of a whole bunch of prisoners is legendary.
